Postdoctoral position in language acquisition

Julian Pine and Elena Lieven are looking for a postdoctoral researcher to
work on an ESRC-funded project on lexical specificity in early grammatical
development and its possible relation to lexical specificity in
child-directed speech from a constructivist perspective. This is a two-year
post based at the Department of Psychology at the University of Nottingham
and the position is available from May 1999. Although the exact starting
time is negotiable, we would hope to appoint a candidate as early as
possible. The appointment will be on the RA1A scale with a salary of
between £15,735 and £20,107 depending on qualifications and experience

The position will involve working on an extensive database of naturalistic
speech data from 12 English-speaking children and their mothers between the
ages of 2 and 3 years all of which have already been transcribed in CHAT
format. Applicants should have completed a Ph.D. in psychology, linguistics
or a related discipline (preferably on some aspect of language
acquisition), and should be prepared to develop their own research line
within the general remit of the project as a whole. Familiarity with the
CHILDES system would also be an advantage

Please send a C.V., statement of research interests, two letters of
recommendation, and a sample of written work on a relevant topic to:
