Dear Colleague,
An international research workshop on
ECOLOGY OF LANGUAGE ACQUISITION
is being held at the University of Amsterdam (Netherlands)
from 11 to 15 January.
This workshop re-examines certain assumptions implicit in
much language acquisition research to date, such as the primacy
of the one-speaker-one-hearer interaction; a static interpretation
of 'context' and participant roles; and the presupposition of
a monolingual/monocultural social matrix. From 8 January the
programme will be posted on the workshop web site:
http://www.hum.uva.nl/~ecolang
Provision has been made for remote partial participation in the
workshop. Remote participants will be able to:
- read the abstracts of the formal presentations and the
input notes for the round table discussions;
- contribute (by e-mail) comments, queries and suggestions
relating to both the presentations and the round table discussions;
- read selected contributions from other remote participants
posted on a virtual notice board;
With the necessary technical provisions (i.e. a 'real audio client', and
standard sound hardware), remote participants will also be able to
access a continuous real-time audio output of the workshop proceedings.
A suitable real audio client program can be downloaded from the
workshop web site, with instructions. For remote participants who are
also have a real audio server, it should be possible to join in the
discussion at certain scheduled times.
If you would like to register as a remote participant, please send an
e-mail inquiry (with "remote participation" in the subject line) stating
your full name, affiliation and research interests to:

Sincerely,
