There is quite a lot of potentially relevant material on normally
developing children. I'm not quite sure whether you are interested only
in recall of narrative, or also in production of novel narratives; but

Press, 1978

mind, language and narrative discourse; Cahiers de Psychologie Cognitive/

Storytelling by Children; Cassell, 1993

A. McCabe and C. Peterson: Developing Narrative Structure; Erlbaum, 1991

Daniela Plesa: Children's intertextual strategies in elicited narratives;
Cahiers de Psychologie Cognitive/ Current Psychology of Cognition, 1998,
17(2), 185-210

conditions: a comparative study; British Journal of Developmental
Psychology, 1994, 12, 177-193

Brian Sutton_Smith: The Folkstories of Children; University of
Pennsylvania Press, 1982

On narratives in autism:

S. Baron-Cohen, A. Leslie and U. Frith: Mechanical, behavioural and
intentional understanding of picture stories in autistic children; British
Journal of Developmental Psychology, 1986, 4, 113-125

F. Happe: The autobiographical writings of three Asperger syndrome adults:
problems of interpretation and implications for theory; in: U. Frith (ed.)
Autism and Asperger Syndrome; Cambridge University Press, 1991

in autism and Downs Syndrome; British Journal of Developmental Psychology,

of mind hypothesis; in: S. Baron-Cohen (ed).: Understanding Other Minds:

children; British Journal of Developmental Psychology, 1995, 13, 45-59
