I think in addition to avoiding nonsense words that may not be nonsense to some kids it is also desirable to check whether words that are nonsense in one dialect of English [say British] are not nonsense [and rather offensive] in another [like say Australian] - at least if one hopes one's publications are read by a wide audience. The not just once used 'dacking' comes to mind. For those not familiar with the australian slang-use i recommend google [which in general might be a good first test for potential candidates]
