THE ASSOCIATION
The Spanish Cognitive Linguistics Association, a member
association of the International Cognitive Linguistics
Association, was born as a a forum for researchers working in
Spain (but it is open to people from other parts of
the world) within the general approach known as cognitive
linguistics, which has room for many different specific
linguistic theories and research programs, united by a common
tenet, i.e. that language is a manifestation of
general cognitive abilities and that it is grounded in
experience, thus reflecting the interaction of cultural,
psychological, communicative, and functional parameters.

Thus our main research interests are those currently attracting
the attention of cognitive linguists around the world:
categorization in natural language as a reflection of general
categorization strategies (prototipicity, metaphor, metonymy,
mental images, cognitive models,), conceptual mapping in general
as instantiated in language, the functional principles of
linguistic organization such as iconicity and naturalness), the
semantico-pragmatic and experiential basis of language structure
and use and other equally relevant areas.

KEYNOTE SPEAKERS INCLUDE:
Ronald W. Langacker (Stanford University): "Indeterminacy in
Semantics and Grammar".
