The conference attempts to bring together researchers
interested in the areas of Spanish semantics and pragmatics to
discuss the foundations of these disciplines, potential points of
interaction/divergence, empirical analyses of Spanish, and
contrastive issues with respect to other Iberian/Romance
languages. The conference is essentially interdisciplinary
(formal and applied presentations are invited).
Some of the topics to be considered are the following:
(i) Current theoretical trends and their applications to
Spanish: Relevance Theory, Discourse Representation Theory,
Dynamic Semantics, Generalized Quantifiers, Cognitive Semantics,
etc.
(ii) Interfaces with other linguistic components: syntax,
phonology (intonation), etc.
(iii) The analysis of discourse markers
(iv) Clauses in discourse
(v) Negation, quantification, mood
(vi) Declaratives and non-declaratives
Abstracts
Abstracts are invited for 20 min. presentations (followed by
10 min discussion). The deadline for submission of abstracts (in
Spanish or English; max 500 words) is June 20, 1999.

Participants will be notified about acceptance by July 15, 1999.
