Description:
The Faculty of Humanities is one of the largest faculties of the
Universiteit van Amsterdam (UvA). Teaching is organised in six schools
or institutes: Dutch, History, archaeology and regional studies,
Language and literature, Philosophy, Art, religion and cultural
studies, and Mediastudies. The faculty aims to provide a broadly
based, internationally oriented academic environment. It offers a
critical and creative intellectual climate, in which independence of
thought and a strong sense of commitment to contemporary society and
the local community are paramount. The Spanish Department, part of
the school of Language and literature, invites applications for the
following post:

The successful candidate will:
- Teach courses in Spanish Language both in the Bachelor and Master
programme, as well as participate, together with other linguists, in
the research MA in Linguistics, offered by the faculty;
- Supervise BA and MA theses;
- Carry out research in Spanlish Language;
- Participate in the administration of the Spanish Department.
Research experience is essential (completed PhD and publications in
international journals or books). The candidate should be an
experienced teacher and have affinity with students.

The initial appointment is for a period of two years, at the end of
which a decision will be taken as to tenure. Depending on age and
experience, the salary can go up to a gross monthly maximum of
4,420.00 (scale 12) for a full time post.
Non-native speakers of Dutch will be expected to be fluent in Dutch
(spoken and written) at the end of the first year of their
appointment.
Interviews will be held between June 23 and 27, 2003.
Appointments will take effect from August 1 or September 1, 2003.
