Description:
The Department of Hispanic Studies at Texas A&M University seeks
to fill the position of Department Head. The successful candidate
will be an experienced, accomplished, energetic individual to
lead the development of its graduate and undergraduate programs
to national prominence; this person will have a PhD and
substantial record of scholarly publication that merits
appointment as a tenured full professor at a major research
institution.
The Department is in its fourth year as an independent,
PhD-granting unit with more than twenty full-time faculty in the
areas of language instruction, linguistics, and Latin American,
Peninsular and U.S. Hispanic/Latino literature and culture. The
ideal candidate will build upon the possibilities for Hispanic
Studies in a border state with a large and growing
Spanish-speaking population.
A flagship institution, Texas A&M is an AAU, Research Intensive
University. The 2005 NACUBO Endowment Study ranks Texas A&M
University and Foundations as ninth among all U.S. institutions
of higher learning in the market value of its endowment assets.
Current enrollment is about 48,000. College Station is the center
of a metropolitan area with a population of approximately 190,000.
