1st PakTESOL International Conference on EMERGING TRENDS IN ENGLISH LANGUAGE
TEACHING IN PAKISTAN: CHALLENGES AND OPPORTUNITIES
*March 12-14, 2020*
*Allama Iqbal Open University Islamabad*
The Pakistan English Language Teaching (ELT) Forum is a special project
initiated by Allama Iqbal Open University (AIOU) Pakistan in collaboration
with the Regional English Language Office (RELO) at the U.S. Embassy in
Islamabad to create opportunities for Pakistani ELT practitioners to
improve their professional skills and strengthen mutual ties. The Forum
will organize an international conference in March 2020 to launch
“PakTESOL” as a national professional teacher association for the Pakistani
ELT community.
The conference aims to provide a platform for national and international
scholars, language policy makers, professionals, researchers, academic
scientists, linguists, and educationists to impart and share their
experiences in quality English language teaching and learning. Through the
Forum, participants will discuss and share ideas on recent innovations,
trends and concerns, practical challenges, and best practices in the
Pakistan ELT context.
The rapid growth of communication technologies and globalization has
provided many opportunities for English language teachers and learners. It
has paved ways for multiple openings as well as created certain challenges.
Many ELT practitioners face the challenge of sustaining established
practices while integrating new methods and technologies in their
classrooms. The conference will provide an opportunity to address issues
related to mixed-ability learners, ESP, syllabus design, assessment,
teacher training, and technology in the classroom. The conference will also
provide a forum for ELT professionals to share and discuss their research
findings and experiences and generate debate on practical and theoretical
issues related to ELT in multiple contexts in Pakistan and internationally.
The Forum is a chance for participants to continue their professional
development while networking and cooperating with the Pakistan and
international ELT community.
