Dear Sir/ Madam
I hope you will be doing well. I am supervising a project of a mobile
school system for nomadic people which provides free basic education in
mother tongue to nomadic people at their doorsteps even at the high
mountains. Short introduction of the project is as under;
The Gujjar nomads are those who have herds of sheep and goats. For grazing
animals, they travel to the high mountains of northern Pakistan and Kashmir
in summer while in winter, they come to lower lands and live far flung
areas of Punjab,KPK and AJK .Due constant travel they cannot send their
children to school.Due to their seasonal migration it is impossible to run
schools which move with according to their travel. Keeping it as a hot
issue THLN started mobile schools for Gujjar nomads which have following
unique special features;
1. Provide free education to Gujjar Nomads in their mother tongue both
at their summer winter places.
2. Currently 10 mobile schools have been established in different
areas where more than 200 children are getting education.
3. These schools provide basic education in Gojri (Gujjars’ mother
tongue ) while from first grade to fifth , Government schools’ curriculum
is taught. From grade one to five, along with government curriculum, one
Gojri book is also taught in each grade.
4. All schools are branches of Aslam Academy Kewai Tehsil Balakot KPK
which has been registered by the Abbottabad Elementary Education Board,
and certificates are issued from the same academy to children studying in
different branches.
*GLCS /HLN Achievements.*
In very short time following milestones have been achieved;
· The Himalayan Literacy Network in unique project in Asia which
provides education in mother tongue to Gujjar Nomads even at the high
mountains.
· Gojri primers (from grade one and two) and short stories have been
written.
· Application has been lodged in KPK assembly through MNAs for
including Gojri along with other languages in government curriculum. It
will be approved soon.
· Many students were graduated and took admission in government and
private schools where their performance is remarkable.
WE Would like to request you to keep us in touch in your future events
held under your kind supervision about MLE-MTB or language.
Thank you very much.
Regards;
Shahid ur Rehman
