This would indeed be good to have.  I think I thought of this once, but
wasn't quite sure what graphic device to use and did nothing about it.
But maybe once could just use some sort of pointy triangle for a link
shape or something like that.  I'll see if I can add this at some point.

Yes, you can do this, under Options|Preferences...|Network (in the left
column).
