Dear LexList Members,

Work on TshwaneLex (being software for dictionary compilation),
progressed well over the past few months. Several readers of this list
have acted as Beta testers, which has helped us fine-tune and further
increase the functionality of the program. Many thanks to them. While we
expect 'Version 1' to be released in early 2005, the current pre-release
is perfectly usable. Several dozen projects across the world are already
using the software. For the latest on TshwaneLex, please visit:

As some of you might be aware of, TshwaneLex was (also) developed as
part of the toolbox of the following PhD:

Concepts and Tools for Lexicography in the Electronic Age
A case study of dictionary compilation in South Africa
-- Gilles-Maurice de Schryver

For those of you who wish to know more about the bigger (theoretical)
picture, you are hereby cordially invited to attend the Public Defence
of this PhD. The event will take place this January 10, 2005, from 16
o'clock onwards, in Het Pand (historic centre of Ghent, Belgium).
Location of Het Pand:
