I can't resist an amusing example here. Most Azerbaijanis drink (içmək)
vodka and smoke (çəkmək, lit. pull, draw) cigarettes. Although Turkish
is a very closely related language, they find it strange that Turks
drink (içmek) cigarettes but, when they are very thirsty, smoke (çekmek
- here an idiom for drinking too much) vodka!
