John, this is the same for Cheyenne. There is just one single word for
animate beings that refers to the sound they make. The same word (énéstoohe,
which I have glossed as 'to sound') is used for characteristic sounds of
humans, cows, horses, sacred power(s), thunder, etc. Well, hmm, actually
dogs get their own word which means 'bark.' But, then, that might be so
because dogs were so important historically for Cheyennes, pulling travois,
etc.
