[Lexicog] an English idiom

If "swallowed up in sorrow" has been used since Calvin's and Wesley's time,
maybe it should be considered an idiom. At least it is an emotive metaphor
which was definitely in use before Holman...
Glancing through the first 30 of the 108 hits from Steve's search, I found 6
unique refs (omitting a couple of duplicate refs) that were obviously not
Christian, including Robert Louis Stevenson: New Arabian Nights. That's 20%.
The topic was not always "soul:" at least one ref was to "horror ...
swallowed up in sorrow" over the plight of a victim.
