As I am interested in expressions for "courage" in
different languages, I am also interested in
figurative expressions for "lack of courage"
(cowardice).
In English I can think of a wimp, chicken, sissy.
For a number of years it is the fashion in Germany
to create new words for male "cowards". There are
over 2000 expressions. The most favourite ones are
"Warmduscher" (warm shower taker; a good English
equivalent could be "cold shower coward") and
"Weichei" (soft egg). They have entered
everyday speech.
Have we discussed different approaches to domain
dictionaries, synomym dictionaries, thesaurus-type
dictionaries on this list? I'd be interested in
learning about new approaches.
