I believe there is some discussion about using FileMaker Pro for
dictionaries at the E-MELD website

and

(particularly sxn 4.1 of the latter document)
This is in the context of maintaining a dictionary of an endangered 
language, and their recommendation is mixed.  Of course, if you're a 
computer programmer, and you have specialized needs (which may have nothing 
to do with preserving data of an endangered language), this (or other 
relational DBs) may be a perfectly appropriate solution.
