The Oxford English Dictionary CD-ROM version has no entry 'Ashura' but
it does have the following citation under the word 'Shiah':

1955 Times 31 Aug. page 6 column 6: 'The Shia mourning day, Ashura,
commemorating the death of Imam Hussein, grandson of the prophet,
passed off without incident.'
