then, perhaps as a mother tongue speaker of Spanish living in the Basque Country it would be a good idea to learn Gascon / Occitan in any of its varieties (polycentric language) because they are at least vulnerable languages right now although with a rich literary heritage behind

These 12 are not only endangered, they are nearly extinct. If we count all the endangered languages (not only extinct but even those who may disappear as naturally transmitted languages in 20 years), there are much more. For instance, all the minority languages of France (except the Creole languages maybe) are endangered. Irish is endangered as a community language although it's official, etc.
