[Lexicog] A dictionary is a dictionary

What is a dictionary? this is not a rhetorical questions, as I am sure that you all might already know that this question can be tricky, depending on the receiver of that question. On my lexicographical review and promotion of text production within a language, I need to present multiple aspect of the use of dictionaries on both social and linguistic aspect. 
 

 I have found thus far Dictionary: the art of lexicography (Landau (2001) and  Lexicography: an introduction (Jackson 2002) which present a definition. do you know of any other valid sources, article or books that may present definitions/usage of dictionaries?
