Subject: Job: Chinese lexicographer

To the GU Linguist List:

AppTek, a subsidiary of Lernout & Hauspie, is currently looking for a
person to work as a lexicographer for English-Chinese machine translation.
This is an entry-level position close to Washington DC in downtown McLean,
VA. AppTek has developed high-end machine translation for several language
pairs, using a powerful LFG-based MT engine. For more information, visit
our web page at http://www.apptek.com.

Qualities we are searching for in a candidate include:
	* Knowledge of traditional and/or LFG approaches to syntax and morphology
for English and Chinese (OK...just syntax for Chinese). An ability to
identify lexically-determined syntactic structures in both languages is very
important.
	* Familiarity with computers; programming knowledge is not required,
however. A focus in computational linguistics is not necessary, but the
candidate must have the ability to learn and work in a structured formalism.
	* Native speaker of Chinese preferred.
	* Work papers for the United States.

Interested candidates may contact Mark Lewellen by e-mail (preferred) at
mlewellen at apptek.com, or by phone at (703) 821-5000 x28.
