Database software

I think that the best choice of database depends on your needs.  Will
you want to have it published on the web, for example?

If you check the archives of the LINGTYP elist at The Linguist List
website, you will find a summary of what database software is being
used by typologists.  It might be a good idea to query that list for
ideas, too.
