Following a recent award by Science Foundation Ireland, I am pleased to
announce openings for two PhD students on the 'ATTEMPT' project,
"All Trees" Efficient Models of Parsing & Translation. The successful
candidates will undertake research at the National Centre for Language
Technology in the School of Computing, Dublin City University,
Ireland. This project has been developed in collaboration with
Dr. Khalil Sima'an of the University of Amsterdam, The Netherlands.
The successful candidates will have a First-class primary degree
and/or a Masters in a numerate discipline. Strong programming skills
are essential. Knowledge of Machine Learning, Statistical methods,
Parsing and/or MT techniques would be extremely advantageous,
especially in the areas of Data-Oriented Parsing and Tree-based models
of Translation.
Each student will receive a stipend of Euro 16K in year 1, rising to Euro
17K in year 3. Their fees will be paid (currently Euro 3,584 p.a.), and a
generous hardware and travel allowance will be provided. The total package
for each student amounts to well over Euro 60K over 3 years. These PhD
positions are available from 1st September 2006.
