1 ) Localization Lead - Mountain View Department
Overview: The Localization Team ensures that Google has the best
worldwide product offerings by analyzing, positioning, packaging, and
promoting our solutions across a variety of countries and markets
where Google does business. The team is responsible for the product
throughout the execution cycle, and works closely with the engineering
group to continuously improve systems, processes, and production.
Job Description: We are looking for talented, educated, smart, and
creative individuals to take
responsibility for the processes, products, and quality of Google's fast-paced,
highly-leveraged localization processes and teams.
Do you understand how to take a thought or product and make it look, feel, and
sound right in another language? How about 40 other languages? Are you a strong
manager of teams? Do you excel at creating scalable, clear, streamlined
processes? Do you have experience with content management and localization
issues and philosophies? If so, perhaps this job is for you.
Responsibilities:
Managing members of Google's Localization team; including performance
reviews, career planning and new talent recruitment as required to
manage varying workloads.
Establishing the team as a center of expertise and excellence for the
company as well as defining team direction based on current and
emerging organizational requirements.
Project management, including resource allocation, capacity planning,
scheduling and risk management.
Leading the team in delivering updates to the site, on schedule, while
achieving quality objectives.
Budgeting and cost control for all localization processes and staff.
Defining, implementing, and maintaining best-of-class processes,
procedures, and tools that will assist with the localization of
updates, new features and site launches.
Working closely with regional Marketing Managers and Product
Management, Product Marketing, Project Management, as well as
development teams (Engineering, Design, and Content) to ensure
localization efforts for international releases are successful.
Working with the Director of Localization and others on strategic planning.
Managing vendors for your product portfolio, budget tracking and
establishing, tracking and analyzing production plus quality metrics.
Requirements:
BA/BS, Masters Degree preferred. Ideal subjects of study: Business,
International Relations, Math, C.S., Linguistics. Technical or highly
analytical backgrounds combined with business training of great
interest. 4 to 5 years of project management and analysis with a
Fortune 500/ high-growth company.
Experience with identifying architecture and infrastructure
requirements to support increasing and evolving localization needs.
Experience with vendor management, establishing budgets, and tracking
expenditure.
Strong project planning and prioritization skills, with knowledge of
project management methods, practices, and software.
Excellent verbal/written communication and analytical skills.
Ability to work well within a diverse, geographically-distributed,
multicultural environment with varying levels of management.
Ability to thrive under pressure and function effectively in a
fast-paced environment; providing strong leadership skills and able to
manage multiple projects simultaneously.
Experience with delivering globalization solutions desired.
• Must be proficient in at least one language other the English.

2) Localization Specialist - Mountain View Department

group to continuously improve systems, processes, and production.
Job Description: This role will provide leadership within the
localization coordination team,
acting as specialist. Responsible for coordinating efficient, high quality
translation and localization for a variety of Google sites and properties.
This person will be expected to:
-Create and manage schedules for project deliverables
-Provide leadership within existing coordination team
-Coordinate translation through internal and external resources
- Work with engineers and product managers to deliver Google's international
site content and products on time and with high linguistic quality
-Develop and maintain terminology glossaries and language style guides
-Recruit translators and manage relationships with them
-Create and execute creative solutions to achieve goals
Responsibilities:
This person will oversee Google's translation and localization support efforts
for a variety of languages and products. Responsibilities will include
meeting product localization needs across multiple divisions and product lines.
Job/Skill Requirements:
-Bachelor's degree or foreign language equivalent in English, translation
and/or a relevant technical field.
-3+ years project management experience working in Localization industry
required.
-Must demonstrate effective oral and written communication skills and the
ability to work cooperatively with staff inside and outside the department.
-Must be able to take responsibility for completion of a project with multiple
parts and work collegially with other staffers to ensure projects meet
deadlines and budgets.
-Ability to think strategically and contribute to tools development, vendor
strategy and other department initiatives.
-Creative approach to achieving goals in a timely manner and with high quality.
-Individual initiative and follow through.
-Track record of managing multipart projects involving outside resources and
meeting deadlines.
-Superb ability to speak/write/communicate in English.
-Proficiency in foreign language(s) is a big plus. Preference for Spanish or
Mandarin Chinese.
-Knowledge of online services and the Internet is essential.
-Knowledge of HTML and translation memory tools is a definite plus.
-Ability to work in a fast-paced, multicultural environment.
