Subject: Welcome to the LFG List

The LFG List is a forum for discussion of linguistic, mathematical, and
computational issues within the framework of Lexical-Functional
Grammar, including:
  - linguistic observations and their treatment in LFG
  - formal devices and their `fit' to linguistic data
  - the typological adequacy of formal models of language
  - computational issues

Lexical-Functional Grammar (LFG) is a lexicalist theory of language
with a parallel constraint-based architecture.

This message contains information about the LFG List and other LFG
resources as well as a brief overview of list commands.

SUBMISSIONS TO THE LFG LIST:

Submissions to the list should be sent to:

                   LFG at listserv.linguistlist.org

MORE LFG RESOURCES:

LFG has two World Wide Web sites. The address of the Stanford web
site is:

                  http://www-lfg.stanford.edu/lfg/

The LFG Page, maintained by Doug Arnold of the University of Essex, is
also accessible from the Stanford page, or at the following address:

                   http://clwww.essex.ac.uk/LFG/

The web sites include access to the LFG Bibliography, an archive of
downloadable papers and work-in-progress, a list of recently published
papers, notification of upcoming events, and more.

To receive by email a copy of the list of Frequently Asked Questions
about LFG, send a message to LISTSERV at listserv.linguistlist.org with
the following message:

                            get FAQ.txt

SUBSCRIBING, UNSUBSCRIBING, OR CHANGING YOUR SUBSCRIPTION:

The easiest way to subscribe or unsubscribe to the LFG List or to
modify your subscription is by visiting:

          http://linguistlist.org/subscribing/sub-lfg.html

You will find directions there. Among the possibilities available:

-You can subscribe to the LFG List
-You can unsubscribe from the LFG List
-You can set up your subscription to the LFG List so that you get only
one message per day containing all submissions to the list from that
day. This is called a "digest."
-You can stop getting mail from the LFG List temporarily without
unsubscribing. This is useful if you will be away and unable to read your
mail.
-You can restart your mail after having temporarily stopped it.

Alternatively, you can send email to LISTSERV at listserv.linguistlist.org
(please note: address the message to LISTSERV, not LFG). To
subscribe, send the message

                           subscribe lfg

To unsubscribe, send the message:

                            signoff lfg

To receive the digest, send the message:

                       set lfg digest

To temporarily stop receiving mail, send the message:

                       set lfg nomail

To restart your mail, send the message:

                        set lfg mail

LIST ARCHIVE:

Contributions sent to the LFG List list are automatically archived at:

         http://listserv.linguistlist.org/archives/lfg.html

Alternatively, you can get a list of the available archive files by
sending an "INDEX LFG" command to LISTSERV at listserv.linguistlist.org.
You can then order these files with a "GET LFG LOGxxxx" command, or
using LISTSERV's database search facilities. Send an "INFO DATABASE"
command for more information on the latter.

FOR ASSISTANCE OR COMMENTS:

If you need help with the LFG List or any of the commands described
above, or you have any suggestions, please contact Yehuda N. Falk
<msyfalk at mscc.huji.ac.il>.
