The Department of Linguistics at the University at Buffalo invites
applications for a tenure-track position in computational linguistics
at the rank of Assistant Professor, beginning in Fall 2019. Candidates
are sought with a strong research record in the application of
experimental, corpus, or quantitative/statistical methods to the
computational study of language. Additional specializations are
welcome. The successful applicant will be expected to teach courses at
all levels as well as serve on thesis committees, establish and
maintain a robust research program, pursue external funding when
available, and provide service to the University and discipline.
The Department of Linguistics at the University at Buffalo
(http://arts-sciences.buffalo.edu/linguistics.html) has a tradition of
research on diverse languages using diverse approaches to linguistics,
with a strong focus on syntactic and semantic typology,
constraint-based models of grammar (e.g. Construction Grammar, HPSG,
RRG), psycholinguistics, and linguistic fieldwork. The ideal candidate
will have research interests that complement those of members from the
University at Buffalo’s Departments of Linguistics, Computer Science
and Engineering, Psychology, or Communicative Disorders and Sciences.
The university provides access to supercomputing infrastructure via
the Center for Computational Research.

PhD in Computational Linguistics, Computer Science, Linguistics, or an
allied field of the language sciences. Demonstrated research in
current approaches to Computational Linguistics.
Exceptional ABD candidates who anticipate PhD conferral within a year
of appointment will be considered. In that case, the initial
appointment will be a one-year temporary appointment as Visiting
Assistant Professor. Continuation of appointment in the Assistant
Professor title will be contingent upon conferral of the PhD.
