UNESCO Votes New Intangible Cultural Heritage Convention

UNESCO, the United Nations Education, Scientific, and Cultural
Organization, voted overwhelmingly at the biennial meeting of
its General Conference in Paris on October 17, 2003 for a new
international convention to safeguard "intangible cultural heritage"-defined
as epics, tales, music, rituals and celebrations, craftsmanship,
and systems of folk knowledge about medicine, astronomy, and
the natural world.
