In a significant move Gwynedd Council in northwest Wales informs Eurolang
that it has officially called on Breton governmental bodies to take action
on behalf of the Breton language.

LANGUAGE' SAYS ZAPATERO IN HIS FIRST SPEECH AS SPANISH PRIME MINISTER

José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero, the leader of the Spanish Socialist Party, was
formally declared as Spains Prime Minister last week after a vote in the
national parliament. During the investiture debate, Mr. Rodríguez Zapatero
referred to reforming the Autonomy Statutes affecting Catalonia, the Basque
Country and Galicia and the limited reform of the Spanish Constitution. He
also stated that: The government will work towards obtaining recognition
for the Catalan language in the EU.
'WE ARE ONE PEOPLE AND WE SPEAK CATALAN', THE SLOGAN FOR SANT JORDI 2004

organised today by la Coordinadora d'Associacions per la Llengua (CAL) and
the language organisation Plataforma per la Llengua in Barcelona to
celebrate Saint Jordis day.
MARCHES IN DUBLIN AND BRUSSELS TOMORROW FOR IRISH EU OFFICIAL STATUS

Marches will take place tomorrow, Saturday the 24th April, in Dublin and
Brussels in support of the recognition of Irish as an official working
language in the European Union.
