FRENCH TAX OFFICE LOSES COURT CASE AGAINST BRETON OVER TV LICENCE

In a recent court case, a Kemper (Quimper) judge cancelled a procedure to
recover the TV licence launched by the French tax office, Trésor Public,
against a Breton tax payer who refused to pay his TV licence. Erwan
Chartier, a 32 year old journalist, has refused to pay his TV licence
since 2000 to protest against the "absence of a television public service
in Breton, the everyday language of my family at home".
UNESCO CONVENTION ON INTANGIBLE CULTURAL HERITAGE PICKS UP ADDITIONAL SIGNATURES

The International Convention for the Safeguarding of Intangible Cultural
Heritage proposed last October by UNESCO obtained its second state
accession when Mauritius ratified the instrument earlier this month. It
joins Algeria, the first signatory state, and is expected to be followed
later this month by Japan. The Convention requires 30 ratifications to
enter into force.
