The aim of this colloqium is to analyse - from an interdisciplinary point
of view (linguistics, education sciences, anthropology, sociology) -
discourses of linguistic policies in multilingual settings, their
relations to specific interests and concrete political measures, and their
consequences for the real situation of languages - in Spain (with a focus
on Catalonia) and in Hispanic America, as well as in the United States.
Within a broader perspective of the social sciences, special attention
will be paid to the concepts of 'identity' and 'nation', to the problems
of language ideologies, and to the 'political' dimension of linguistic
policies.
