Meeting Description:

Language and Identity conference will be organized by the Department of
General Linguistics of Kazakh State University. The conference will be
held in Almaty, Kazakhstan.



CALL FOR PAPERS:
The last third of the twentieth century witnessed a surge of the so-called
''ethnic revival'' with a renewed stress on language in various
mobilizations of ethnicity and nationalism through the world. The aim of
the conference is to explore the process and mechanisms of collective
identity formation, role of language in identity transformation, language
and ethnic conflicts, role of education in language identity shaping.
Topics may include among others:

- Language and identity: theoretical perspectives
- Language contact and identity
- Language and ethnic identity
- Language identity in transforming society

Submission information:

Full-length paper (14, 000 symbols, Times New Roman, Microsoft Word 6.0 or
higher) should be submitted electronically by email, in subject line write
'Language and identity and conference'. All papers will be reviewed.

Deadline for paper submissions: February 1, 2006
Notification of acceptance: March 1, 2006.

Registration fee is $30.
Conference registration information and conference program will be sent
with notification.
