Officials slammed for not implementing Kannada

was the question Kannada Development Authority (KDA) Chairman Dr
Siddhalingaiah slamed over the officials of various department.

During a discussion at the the district level review meeting held at DC
office in Shimoga on Friday, he lost his temper on official for being
apathetic towards implementation of Kannada at all levels of
administration. Officials of 20 departments were kept before him for lack
of implementation of Kannada in administration. They stated reasons like
work pressure, lack of knowledge about language policy, difficulty in
translating technical words into Kannada and limitations of computer

Expressing dissatisfaction over the adverse attitude of officials, Dr
Siddhalingaiah termed the lapses in Kannada implementation as unpardonable
offence. He came down heavily on officials of Bhadra CADA, Industrial
Development Centre, Collegiate Education Department, District Adult
Education Department, Food and Civil Supply Department and Police
Department who did not send reports on Kannada implementation.

He criticised Commercial Tax Department, MESCOM, Urban Water Supply
Department, Pollution Control Board, Forest Department and RTO officials
for not implementing Kannada. Deputy Director for Public Instruction
Chouhan was also criticised for not taking any action against private
schools which violated the language policy. In replying to the complaints
on violation of language policy, DFO Brijesh Kumar clarified that he did
not violate the policy.

Deputy Commissioner T K Anil Kumar, Zilla Panchayat Chief Executive
Officer Dr P Boregowda and other officials were present.
