Promoting Malay
Sunday, December 17th, 2006
A host of activities have been planned for next year to promote the
learning and use of the Malay Language. There will also be a $75,000
boost, in the form of funding, to encourage further community
participation. The Malay Language Learning and Promotion Committee (MLLPC)
is inviting individuals and organisations with programmes that promote the
Malay Language to apply for the fund. So far, nearly 20 activities have
been arranged for next year, targeting all sectors and age groups within
the Malay community.
Applications will be judged on their merits and should be submitted three
months before the start of the programme or by 31 August 2007. The
committee provides funding to partner organisations like Mendaki,
Singapore Malay Teachers Union and Malay Language Teachers Association.
The MLLPC, chaired by the Education Ministrys Senior Parliamentary
Secretary, Mr Masagos Zulkifli, was set up in February 2006. MOE will
provide an annual grant of $300,000 over the next five years to help fund
the committees programmes.
