The Seay Business Unit anticipates an opening for a Defense Language
Policy Analyst, pending award of a 6-month contract to study foreign
language sustainment and enhancement for the Defense Language Office
(DLO), Office of the Under Secretary of Defense for Personnel and
Readiness.
JOB DESCRIPTION: Scope: Must be capable of identifying, developing, and
assessing plans, programs, and policy options for foreign language
sustainment and enhancement to DoD civilian and military language
professionals. Should be experienced in developing an analytical framework
and applying that framework for assessing complex personnel, training, and
operational issues. May also be called upon to develop and assess
alternative courses of action for a variety of security policy and
implementation matters in the areas of defense modernization, QDR
implementation, lessons learned exploitation, and regional/cultural
understanding. Will interact with senior officials in Department of
Defense and other US Government departments and agencies. Must be able to
function effectively in a dynamic, high-paced environment. Should have
extensive experience working in the upper levels of the Department of
Defense (OSD, Joint Staff, or Combatant Command staff).
REQUIRED EDUCATION/SKILLS: Bachelor's degree in international relations,
history, political science, area studies, or a related field and 10+ years
related experience. Masters Degree in international relations, history,
political science, area studies, or a related field preferred. Requires
excellent writing and briefing skills. DESIRED SKILLS: Experience as a
language professional within DoD (such as an intelligence linguist or
Foreign Area Officer), another Federal Agency, or in the civilian sector
will be a distinct advantage in this position.
