Educated women lack interest towards Kannada
BHADRAVATI: Contrary to the saying, An educated woman is like an
institution by herself, affection towards Kannada language appears to be
diminishing in the educated women, said president of Shimoga district
Kannada Sahitya Parishat D Manjunath. While addressing the school day
anniversary of Sri Satya Sai Institute of Integrated Education here on
Friday, he said that parents, fathers in particular, seldom interact with
the school where their children study.
They carry a notion that putting their wards in English medium ensures
development. In fact, English medium instruction has reduced the
creativity among children. For, the children can better understand the
subjects if they are taught in their mother tongue. India has adopted
tri-language policy in its constitution, which is not implemented in
letter and spirit, he said. Children are naturally confused when they are
taught in a language, which is not familiar to them, he noted.
Most think that English is the most widely spoken language in the world,
which is not correct, he pointed. In the order of preference Chinese
language stands first with 107 crore users followed by Hindi spoken by 51
crore people and Spanish spoken by 42 crore people, he added. Chairman of
Sri Satya Sai Institute of Integrated Education K B D Beeraiah and former
education officer Ratnaiah also spoke. Other trustees of the institution
were also present.
Headmaster G Parameshwarappa, reading the reports of activities, said that
the School had waived the fees to the tune of nearly Rs 75,000 to the poor
students besides bestowing the cash awards upon the meritorious students.
Headmaster Ravi welcomed the gathering. Asma Jabeen and Sahana compered
the programme. G Parameshwarappa proposed of vote of thanks.
