The Fijian Affairs Ministry said it will go ahead with implementing
National Language Policies despite the fact that a Bill is yet to be drawn
up. According to Principal Culture Officer Mere Ratunabuabua, the ministry
has successfully engaged the Education Ministry in implementing the
language policies however it is yet to conduct public consultations over
the introduction of sinages. Ratunabuabua said that so far upon liaisons
with the Ministry of Multi-Ethnic Affairs, the National Advisory Board has
agreed on the issue of signage in Fijian and English. Meanwhile the
ministry has now been tasked with drawing up a 10 nation plan on
introducing education for sustainable development which stakeholders are
expected to discuss next month.
