Anyone who is interested in the recent statements from Enda Kenny (a fluent
Irish speaker, incidentally, and the leader of the Fine Gael party) in
favour of making Irish optional in the schools and in the reaction to this
position, may be interested to know that an on-line petition addressed to
Fine Gael has been opened up at
<www.PetitionOnline.com/gaeilge/petition.html>. The petition allows room
for people who have signed (1383 so far) to add their comments, and these
comments are quite interesting for anyone who follows the debates on Irish
language policy today. You do not have to sign the petition to read the
names or comments on it.
