Education Minister says new Chinese curriculum will allow more
creativity

SINGAPORE: Education Minister Tharman Shanmugaratnam says the new Chinese
curriculum will allow teachers to exercise more of their creativity.
Speaking at a school event on Wednesday evening, he said he was greatly
encouraged by the success of the pilot programme with different schools
adopting different methods to interest their students in the language.
He hopes this flexible approach will allow teachers to sense what their
students need and help those of varying abilities. "It will hopefully
produce a generation of pupils who will treat the language not as an
examination language, but as something they use with facility, use with
ease, use with some excitement," he said. - CNA/so
