Language Provision in Police Chief Posting
Josh Pringle
Sunday, October 22, 2006
Applicants to lead the Ottawa Police Service must speak both official
languages. A proposed job posting for the new Police Chief to be presented
tonight at the Police Services Board meeting includes a provision on an
applicant's ability to speak both official languages. The proposed job
posting states "competencies in English and French to be acceptable to the
board." A report recommends the Ottawa Police Service use the city's
bilingualism policy as a guide. Police Chief Vince Bevan is set to step
down in the new year.
