BT manager takes a position on Welsh Language Board Apr 25 2007

Sion Barry, Western Mail

SENIOR manager with BT in Wales Owen Evans has been appointed as a
non-executive to the Welsh Language Board. Mr Owen, pictured, has been
appointed by the Assembly's Minister for Culture, Welsh Language and
Sport, Alun Pugh AM, for his private-sector experience in implementing
Welsh language policies and for his strong support for the language. Mr
Owen said, "BT's Welsh language policy is regarded as an exemplar in the
private sector and I'm pleased to be able to use the experience I gained
with BT in Wales to further increase the use of Welsh throughout the
country."

Mr Owen, from Aberystwyth, was until recently head of policy and
communications for BT in Wales with responsibilities including BT's Welsh
language policies. However, he has now taken on a new role as head of head
of strategic relations for local and devolved government in BT Global
Services. Working with BT's devolved Government team, Mr Evans will still
be based in Wales, but will deal equally with the Scottish Executive and
its associated agencies as well as their Welsh counterparts.

Mr Evans said, "With the forthcoming elections across both Scotland and
Wales and both countries' desire to improve public services it's a great
time to be involved in working with bodies to improve the quality of life
of people and to witness the emergence of strong and distinct variations
in policy."
