Form committee to evaluate language policy: GSS
SHIMOGA: A separate committee comprising linguistic and educational
experts should be constituted before implementation of the new language
policy pertaining to English, advised Rashtrakavi awardee G S
Shivarudrappa. He was speaking after inaugurating the 73rd Akhila Bharata
Kannada Sahitya Sammelana at Nehru Stadium in Shimoga on Thursday. The
State Government should take a firm decision on introducing English based
on recommendations of the committee. It should understand that Kannada is
the effective medium of education in Karnataka. All sources of knowledge
should be conveyed only through Kannada, he opined.
Elected representatives have been showing much enthusiasm to encourage
English instead of promoting Kannada. They have failed to prove their
political commitment in favour of Kannada, he alleged. The State
Government should not introduce English while rural Karnataka is under the
grip of infrastructure-related problems. Open market culture has changed
the educational sector. The Government should not encourage commercial
interests of educational institutions, he said.
