Catholic Sabha asks to 'Reconsider language policy'

*Mangalore July 19:* Catholic Sabha of Mangalore region on behalf of the
students and parents has submitted a memorandum to Chief Minister H D
Kumaraswamy through Dakshina Kannada Deputy Commissioner M Maheshwar Rao
requesting the State government to re-consider its language policy and
notify the schools started after 1994 to impart education in English
itself. The rule of the State government that Kannada must be implemented as
the medium of instruction from 1st standard to 5th standard in all schools,
has created a sense of uncertainity in the minds of students and the
parents, said a press release from the Catholic Sabha of Mangalore region.

The release stated that in wake of globalisation, sending children to
English medium school is inevitable and hence the government could as well
make a rule to keep Kannada as a mandatory subject and not as a medium of
instruction. The release also said that in Dakshina Kannada region there
other prominent languages like Tulu, Konkani, Beary and English which are
also widely used by the people.
