Dennis Kucinich: Make Spanish Second National Language of the US
By Associated Press | Politics
Immigration and Iraq dominated the first presidential debate ever
broadcast in Spanish.
The debate at the University of Miami in Florida was broadcast by
Univision, the nation's largest Spanish-language network. There are
strong feelings against the Iraq war among Hispanics. That topic lead
the debate, with moderators noting that two-thirds of Hispanics
support a withdrawal from Iraq. Ohio Congressman Dennis Kucinich was
loudly applauded for saying he would pull troops out of Iraq.
All of the Democratic candidates who were asked about immigration said
they would address the contentious issue in their first year in
office. Kucinich says he would make Spanish a second national
language, but no leading candidate was willing to go that far.
