Teachers of English urged to increase students` practical proficiency
Teachers of English in Indonesia should teach practical English rather
than mastery of the language , educationist Prof Arief Rachman said
here on Friday. "The shortcoming of teachers of English in Indonesia
is that they only strive to increase their studuents` competence in
English but not their practical English skill," Arief Rachman said. He
said the teachers` tendency to only teach the mastery of English was
seen in English-language examinations or tests which were entirely
focused on grammar and vocabulary.
"The teachers should have stimulated the students` right brain by
involving them in English-language composition and speech
competitions," he said. He said the teachers should play an important
role in teaching practical English to their students.
