Meeting Description:

3rd gathering of professionals in Brazilian bilingual education. Invited
speakers include: Dr. Jim Cummins, Dr. Ofelia García, Dr. Rainer Enrique Hamel,
Dr. Anne Pakir, Dr. Merrill Swain, Dr. Siv Björklund, Dr. Deborah J. Short, and
Dr. Else Hamayan.

We are inviting all professionals working in: Bilingual Education; Brazilian
Education; International Education; ELL/ESL etc; and/or Publishing, to submit a
proposal to present a Workshop or Presentation, at our conference in May. All
workshops and presentations will last 1:15. This year we are suggesting that the
each session last 1 hour plus 15 minutes for questions or group work. English
and Portuguese are the official languages of the conference.

Deadline is: October 10th, 2008

Meeting Description:

The Society aims to gather and disseminate up-to-date knowledge concerning the
world's present-day languages, their distribution and use among the population,
their relative practical importance, usefulness and availability from the
economic, political and cultural standpoints, their genetic, historical and
geographical affiliations and relationships, and their identification and use in
spoken and written form.

Call for Papers

Abstracts welcomed on any aspect of languages in contact/conflict.

The Society is particularly interested in linguistic geography, languages in
contact and conflict, language planning and policy, language education and the
broader aspects of sociolinguistics ­''macro-sociolinguistics''.

Additional areas include dying or extinct languages, aboriginal languages,
language distribution and population use, relative practical importance,
linguistic geography, language planning and politics and bilingualism.
