Sioux Falls folds Lakota language into other classes
A shift in focus toward younger Native American students means the end
of a short-lived Lakota language class in the Sioux Falls School
District.
Offered as a one-year course to high schoolers each of the past two
years, Lakota instead will become part of the Native American
Connections classes, taught at the three high schools and five middle
schools. Paulette High Elk, who last year taught the language daily at
the high schools, now will share class time with all NAC teachers in
the district.
