Iran: Worries Over Persian-language BBC Channel
January 14, 2009 | 2201 GMT
Iranian Intelligence Minister Gholam Hossein Mohseini Ejehi is
concerned about a Persian-language television channel the British
Broadcasting Corp. (BBC) launched Jan. 14, The Associated Press
reported, citing a report from Iran's official IRNA news agency. IRNA
quoted Ejehi as saying the channel is not "appropriate for our
security" and that Iran would take "the necessary measures" but gave
no specifics. Mohammad Karim Abedi, a member of the Iranian
parliament's Foreign Policy and National Security Committee, said
Iranian secret services learned that the BBC had plans to set up an
intelligence network under the guise of journalistic activities.
