Updated : 02 Jun 2009 09:10:34 AM ISTBANGALORE: The High Court on
Monday issued contempt notice to the State government for not
complying on its order on language policy.
While hearing a contempt petition filed by Karnataka United Schools
Management Association and others, a division bench issued notice to R
G Nadadur, Principal Secretary Primary and Secondary Education, G
Kumar Naik, Commissioner for public instruction and TC Chandraiah,
deputy director of public instruction.
However, before issuing the notice to the government, the court told
the petitioner that its earlier order was not binding on the
government; the court said that it only wanted the government to
consider the representation of the petitioner’s school. In April 6,
2009, a single bench had directed the government to consider the
representation of Sri Arabindo Vidya Manir over granting permission to
teach in English medium from first standard to fifth standard.
According to the petitioner, the government had to consider the
representation filed by the school authorities before May 17, 2009.
But the petitioner’s counsel argued that the government had refused to
implement the order of the single bench. The division bench has now
adjourned the matter to June 12, 2009 and directed the government to
file objections. In a another writ petition filed by the Karnataka
United Schools Management Association and others, justice Mohan
Shanthangowder has issued notice to the government over granting
permission to teach in English medium.
Though the petitioner requested the government to issue a fresh
directive to the government, the court refused to issue any fresh
directions as it had already issued directions in the matter. The
court adjourned the hearing to June 15, 2009.
