Dear Colleagues,
Lancaster University, Department of Linguistics and English Language is
planning to launch a new MA TESOL distance programme (subject to approval by
the university) from October 2009. The programme is designed to build on our
many years of experience of offering our very successful face-to-face
on-campus MA TESOL programme, and mirrors it closely in terms of structure,
content and methods of study. The difference is that, except for one short
initial visit, students do not have to leave their workplace to pursue their
studies in Lancaster as the programme is entirely web-based. The programme
offers the opportunity for part-time distance learning and for basing the
coursework and dissertation on issues and problems in the participants' own
educational context. The taught modules consist of a number of units that
simulate the lecture + seminar/workshop format that is found in face-to-face
teaching in our department. The participants work on one module per academic
term, over the course of six terms. Input material introduces appropriate
themes, approaches and theories and these are supplemented by tasks
representing authentic challenges in language teaching and seeking to
develop particular aspects of the participants' competence. The deadline for
applications is 1st of July 2009. For more information please visit our
web-site: http://www.ling.lancs.ac.uk/study/masters/matesoldistance.htm
We would be very grateful if you could forward this email to your colleagues
who might be interested in this programme.
Best regards,
Dr. Judit Kormos
Director of studies
