The short, sweet summer is nearing its end here on Salt Spring
Island, British Columbia, Canada. As we continue working through the summer
we think of the young fawn who was born just under our Terralingua office,
and often visits us at this time.
We are very excited to announce that the final arrangements are being made
for the cultural exchange with the Raramuri people from Mexico. We expect
them to arrive on Salt Spring Island at the end of September. We'll have
more news about this on Terralingua's Facebook page as we get closer to the
date.
Ortixia our creative designer, is busy finishing the latest edition
of Langscape that should reach you very soon. In the meantime we continue
to receive great feedback from the Portal Launch, * Biocultural Diversity
Conservation: a community of
practice<http://e2ma.net/go/6767221054/208287215/215007462/1405789/goto:http://www.terralingua.org/bcdconservation/>
.* Please visit the portal and be part of a growing community of people who
care deeply about biocultural diversity. Updates are made often and new
stories continually arrive from people all over the world.
Terralingua Executive Director, Luisa Maffi continues her prolific work.
In September she will be the keynote speaker at the Trace Foundation's fifth
lecture series: Minority Languages in Today¹s Global Society. Interdependent
Diversities: The Relationship between Language, Culture, and Ecology.
We encourage you to tell others about the important work that Terralingua is
doing. In addition, we invite you to support our work. It's very easy! Just

Sanjay Khanna, writer, journalist, Terralingua collaborator, and co-founder
of Resilient People<http://e2ma.net/go/6767221054/208287215/215007469/1405789/goto:http://resilientpeople.org/>

28, 2010) that highlights the vital and timely work Terralingua is
doing. The United Nations General Assembly declared 2010 the International
Year of Biodiversity<http://e2ma.net/go/6767221054/208287215/215007471/1405789/goto:http://www.cbd.int/2010/welcome/%232>in
large part to draw attention to accelerated biodiversity losses that
are
damaging the very support systems humans rely on.
Established ten years before the U.N. declaration, in 1996, Luisa Maffi, a
linguist, anthropologist, and ethnobiologist, co-founded
Terralingua<http://e2ma.net/go/6767221054/208287215/215007472/1405789/goto:http://www.terralingua.org/html/home.html>and
continues to lead the organization as it works to sustain the
biocultural diversity of life. Writes Khanna, "Terralingua researches,
communicates, and seeks to ameliorate the loss of biological, linguistic,
and cultural diversity -- 'biocultural diversity' for short -- in part by
communicating that nature and culture are inescapably linked." To read the
